24h Le Mans

The Automobile Club de l’Ouest at Rétromobile

The venue has become the leading museum in the Sarthe and the second in France in terms of visitors. Boosted by this dynamic the ACO will be present at the not-to-be-missed Rétromobile Show in Paris (7-11 February) at Porte de Versailles to highlight its heritage with two exceptional cars, which are being added to its collections.

The 24-Hours Museum tells the story of the motor car in the Sarthe and of the greatest endurance race in the world, the Le Mans 24 Hours. All the major manufacturers, Bentley, Ferrari, Jaguar, Ford, Porsche, Matra and Audi, display mythical models, which have left their mark on the Sarthe classic.
In line with actions carried out beforehand and thanks to the many activities and conferences as well as the quality of the exhibitions put on, attendance of the 24-Hours Museum has risen making it a major tourist destination.

To bolster its renown at both national and international level and keep up this momentum, the ACO has decided to be present at Rétromobile between 7-11 February. At this not-to-be-missed rendezvous for enthusiasts, onlookers and fans of historic cars, the ACO’s patrimony will be highlighted through the year 1928 and the display of the authentic Tracta Gephi and the Salmson Grand Sport both of which raced in the Le Mans 24 Hours.
In that year’s event two French makes, Tracta and Salmson, were the centre of attention of the public and the media. These small-engined cars did battle in the classification of the Index of Performance. Ninety years later, the authentic Tracta Gephi, a national treasure, and the Salmson GSS are being added to the ACO collections in the 24-Hours Museum to recreate this unique portrait of the 24-Hours race in the Sarthe.
