Race week begins with scrutineering in the town centre on Sunday 12 and Monday 13 June, followed by the free practice sessions and qualifiers on Wednesday 15 and Thursday 16. The Drivers Parade takes place on the Friday evening. As Grand Marshal, former Toyota works driver Alexander Wurz will lead the field for the warm-up lap before the 15:00 start. Brad Pitt is this year’s official starter. The American actor will wave the French flag to mark the beginning of another 24 hours of magic.
The whole starting ceremony is atmospheric. Excitement mounts when the cars line up on the grid, then drivers and teams are presented before a rousing rendition of the French national anthem. Then a hush descends on the circuit as 15:00 approaches. If you haven’t already got your ticket for the 60-car race, then book now to avoid disappointment!
